The Coast Guard Command (SGK) detained approximately 160 people who had entered Turkey illegally and were heading to Europe in the province of Antalya on Saturday.
According to Anatolia news agency reports, the SGK searched a ship that was 12 miles off the coast of the town of Boğazkent in Antalya’s Serik district and found 160 illegal migrants on it.
The migrants, including women and children, were taken to Konyaaltı Elementary School, where they were gathered in a large hall for health checks. One of the female migrants was hospitalized due to her critical health condition. The police also used this opportunity to collect testimonies from the migrants in the hall.
The illegal migrants were to stay in Antalya until Monday before being sent back to their respective countries.
