Azerbaijan and Turkey plan joint production of anti-tank missiles

Azerbaijan can take part in Turkish ROKETSAN Company’s anti-tank missile project, Huseyn Baysak, ROKETSAN CEO.

Baysak said a number of countries, including Azerbaijan, take interest in these missiles developed by Turkish engineers. Azerbaijan is also interested in joining production of these missiles.

“We finished the work on the project of long-range anti-tank missile system UMTAS and begin its tests. UMTAS is launched from the helicopters and can strike all ground targets, including tanks. This is ROKETSAN’s national product and no foreign technologies were used in this project”, said Baysak.

The company is planning to begin serial production of UMTAS after the tests are completed in 2012. The system, with a range of 4 km, can be installed on a tripod or on vehicles. It will be used against most armored vehicle types.

UMTAS missiles have a 160mm caliber, exceedes a weight of 37.5kg, is planned to have a lenght of 1.750m and can effectively reach targets at a distance of 8 kilometres.
