One soldier was killed in a land mine attack by suspected members of the outlawed Kurdistan Workers’ Party (PKK) today near the Şemdinli district of the southeastern Hakkari province.
A land mine was remotely detonated by PKK militants as a military convoy passed next to it on a road between the Derecik village and the Ortaklar military outpost in Hakkari.
One soldier, who identity has not been released, was killed in the explosion while another was wounded. The wounded soldier was flown to the Hakkari Military Hospital in a helicopter.
Reinforcements were sent to the area to find the culprits responsible for the attack.
The PKK is listed as a terrorist organization by Turkey, the United States and the European Union.
