Alleged members of the outlawed Kurdistan Workers’ Party, or PKK, took over an airport construction site in the Bingöl province in southeastern Turkey late Saturday night.
The attackers kept the construction workers as hostages as they set the administrative building and a construction vehicle on fire. After giving the workers speeches about the PKK, the attackers tried to escape in a vehicle owned by the construction site.
When the vehicle became stuck in mud, they continued to run on foot into the woods.
Security forces were tipped off by one of the workers who managed to break free from his bonds after the attackers left the construction site. The operations were still continuing in the area to find those responsible for the attack.
The PKK is listed as a terrorist organization by Turkey, the United States and the European Union.
