One police officer was killed and three were wounded in an attack by suspected members of the outlawed Kurdistan Workers’ Party (PKK) in the southern province of Hatay today.
A PKK suicide bomber was shot in the head and killed before he could detonate explosives strapped to his body.
Hatay Governor Celalettin Lekesiz said police officers on guard duty in front of a police station in Hatay’s İskenderun district came under attack by PKK militants firing with long range weapons from two separate vehicles. One militant, later revealed to be a suicide bomber, was killed before he could detonate the explosives on his body.
One police officer was killed and three were wounded in the attack. One of the wounded officers was in critical condition, the report said.
Security forces were trying to locate the two vehicles, a black SUV and a black automobile, which fled the scene of attack, Lekesiz said.
