Turkish gendarmery and police forces confiscated tons of hashish and heroin in 2010.
The security forces impounded 70 tons of hashish, 11 tons of heroin, 223 kilograms of opium, 279 kilograms of cocaine and almost 2 million illicit pills in their operations throughout Turkey in 2010.
They detained 40,211 people in their operation in connection with illicit drug trafficking.
Moreover, security forces seized 73 million packages of smuggled cigarettes, 570,000 bottles of smuggled alcoholic beverages and took into custody 16,253 people.
Police also confiscated 258 long-range weapons, 494 short-range weapons and 47,817 ammunition. They impounded 68,012 historical artifacts.
